Pectin is a protein substance commonly found in foods. It finds with glycoproteins and glycolipids on the surface of animal cells and cause agglutination.  Some lectins cause agglutinations of erythrocytes (red blood cells) in specific blood groups. Lectins also play a significant role in hormonal reactions.

What does this mean?  Lectins are very small molecules from the food you eat that selectively cause blood and other body tissues to stick together.  This 'stickiness' various from people depending on their blood type.
