Many uses of this natural folk remedy, ACV, including for cholesterol control.
Research done by Iranian on rats with normal and diabetic lipid levels.1 They gave both groups a diet that included ACV.
After just 4 weeks, both groups of rats were healthier. Both groups showed reduction in their LDL (bad) cholesterol. As LDL levels decreased, HDL (good cholesterol) levels increased. In the diabetes rats, lower levels of fats were found, which leads to decreased risk of heart disease. ACV also increased HDL levels in the diabetic rats.
Another study done by Turkish researches on rats, gave them oral supplements of ACV.2 Once again, their triglyceride levels decreased. The rats on a high-cholesterol diet also showed decreased levels of LDL.
Others have used ACV to treat other ailments3 such as acne, allergies, sore throat, indigestion, and arthritis, just to name a few.
Please be aware that there are very limited if any, scientific studies on humans with natural, folk remedies, due to the fact that it does not support the big pharmas.
Amount to use: One to two tablespoon of ACV in 8-16 oz. water is all you need. You may start with less amount if the taste is too strong. Some starts with 1 tsp ACV and 1 tsp raw honey in 8 oz. of warm water, and work your way up to as much as to 2 Tbsp daily for treatment of ailments. For maintenance, 1 Tbsp/day is sufficient.
If you're using honey, please sure to use raw honey to get the most benefit. If it's pasteurized, it may look 'better', but all the enzymes and benefits are gone. You may also use ACV in salad dressings instead of the regular vinegar. Some people put it in a water bottle and sip it all day long. Some add it to their favorite juice, some add honey to tone down the strong flavor. Anyway you can get it in your body is great for you. Just don't drink it directly because it is highly acidic and could damage your teeth. Some people like to use straws, to further reduce the exposure of enamal to the acidity.
Although ACV is acidic, it has alkalinzing effect once it's consumed, bring much healing to the mostly acidic body, due to our modern diet.
Suggested time to consume ACV: take 1 C water with ACV on an empty stomach first in the morning and/or before bedtime. Or some sip it all day long using a straw. But if it's dilute enough, the acidity may not affect your enamel.
Another use is to water plants using 2 tsp ACV in 5 C of water. It helps to open buds.
Last but not least, make sure you use raw, organic, and unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar.
